    27) September 16th (SHS) Puk wins his last 4 Hobby heats in a row and
wins Top Dog honors with 28. Billy Martin wins his first Hobby Stock
Feature coming in his 21st start. Coming out of the last turn Billy
went wide keeping Puk behind him while all Puk could do was push him
across the line. With one night of racing left at SHS Tim Gulden holds
a slim 1 point lead over Pat Amos Schroeder.
Late Model racing saw another first as Tim Gulden recorded his first
LM Feature win as he held off fellow Winona Minnesota driver Steve Rem.
Tim’s win came in his 22nd LM start. CrazyHo was Top Dog with 24.
Ike Shimshak holds a 5 point lead over defending LM champion Steve Rem.
Point’s leader Billy Martin kept on his winning ways with his 8th VGN
Feature win of the year and now trails overall leader Paul Gilbertson
by 1. Bill was Top Dog with 27 points and has a 22 point lead over
Johnny G going into the final night next Thursday the 23rd.
Steve Rem picked up career Mod win #2 taking the checkers over Rich
Hohlfeld. Three drivers shared Top Dog Honors with 23; Steve, Rich and
Puk. Paul holds a 15 point lead over Rich while Pat sits 3rd 22 behind.
Starting tonight with the Applefest 120 several RCHORA events being
fazed out will be kept a live in the CnB division. The winner is
determined by the overall points earned on the night, same as the Lead
Foot of the Week. Next year each track will have at least one night
which will be designated as one of these named events. I’m hopping to
run one at each of the remaining race nights we have left. One at
Skunk Hollow, Dakota Interstate, River City Raceway and the 2 nights at
    Bangor Speedbowl. Stay tuned.

for some reason the format does not match up very well for our points. I will have to work on that. Just to let everyone know we have about
36 drivers racing here. Not all every night but averaging about 12-15 drivers on a night. Some nights more, some nights less

    28) September 23rd (SHS) Championship night at Skunk Hollow Speedway brought us a new champion in the Hobby Stock division. Tim Gulden of Winona Minnesota entered the final night 1 point up on Pat Schroeder, both gunning for their first title at this track. Both made it to the feature event with Pat now caring a 2 point lead over his fellow Premiere Coachworks sponsored driver. Rich Hohlfeld jumped to the early feature lead but the ill handling Granada departed on lap 3 sadly taking Schroeder with him. Meanwhile Tim settled into 2nd place behind Jake Shimshak in the 16oz Old Mil Chevelle satisfied to finish there.
The win was Jake’s 2nd career at SHS and moved him from 5th to 4th in the final standings, he placed tied for 2nd last season. Pat and Rich both had 4 heat wins on the night while Tim and Pat tied for Top Dog honors with 25. The title for Tim was his first ever in CnB racing.
For the season Rich led the way with 2 feature wins while Jake and Bill Martin each had 1 apiece. Pat led the way with 10 heat wins and was the only driver to make all 4 feature races. Top point night was week 3 by Puk with 28.
Current CnB Late Model point’s leader Ike Shimshak picked up his 2nd career LM Track title taking his first here at SHS edging defending champion Steve Rem by 3 points. Entering the night Ike held a 5 point lead over Rem with both drivers advancing to the 10 lap main. Ike’s chances looked slim when he was the first driver to exit the feature on lap 7.
Luckily for him the wreck gobbled up Steve and Tim also. Paul Shimshak’s chances for his first career LM feature look super entering the feature on lane 1 but Rich’ Firechicken was to strong. Hohlfeld picked up the feature win, his 7th here at SHS, but only his 2nd of 2010. Johnny G, Steve and Ike led the way with 3 heats win but even that wasn’t enough for John to make the feature. Rich and Steve shared Top Dog honors with 24.
For the season Ike led the way with 11 heat wins. No driver made all
4 features while Ike and Steve made 3. Feature winners were Steve, John, Tim and Rich each with one. Top point night was week 1 by Johnny G with 25.
Current VGN phenomenon Mild Bill Martin had a 22 point lead entering the final night’s action over Johnny G. Bill went out and added 3 more heat wins, placed 3rd in the feature and won the championship by 30 points! In the feature he and Kevin Owen swapped the lead several times before Billy de-slotted. From there Kevin held off Ike for his first VGN feature win of 2010, 2nd here, and 5th career. Bill was Top Dog with 26 points for a record 9th time. The win moved Kevin from 6th to 3rd in the final SHS standings.
For the season Billy led the way with 14 heat wins and was the only driver making all 4 features. He also came away with 2 of the feature wins with Kevin and Pat wining the other 2. High point night was week
    2 by Billy with 29.
Having never won the Mod division at his home track 2010 looked to be the year for Paul Gilbertson entering the final night with a 15 point lead over Rich. Puk failed to win a heat race and missed his first Mod feature of 2010, turns out he missed all 4 on the night, first time in his career. Meanwhile Hohlfeld won 2 heats and advanced to the feature needing a win to tie for the championship. Rich could only placed 2nd in the feature pulling within 1 point of Puk at the end. Billy Martin had a career night in the Mods gaining 27 points and his first career Mod Feature. The win came in his 11th start.
For the season Puk led the way with 9 heat wins while Puk, Rich, Billy and Jake made 3 of the 4 feature events. Feature winners were Puk, Billy, Steve Rem and Drew Kreibich. High point night was week 1 by Puk with 28.
All 4 driver’s titles were their first at SHS.

The Lead Foot of the week and 35th annual Old Style 120 go to Billy Martin.
    1 Bill Martin 87*
    2 Rich Hohlfeld 82*
    3 Steve Rem 82
    4 Tim Gulden 79
    5 Kevin Owen 74*
    6 Jake Shimshak 73*
    7 Ike Shimshak 67

Week 1) January 20th (T-S) The 2011 season kicked off for the first time ever at a different track other than State Park Speedway with the season opener at Thompson Speedway. Eleven drivers made the trip in near zero degree weather for Hobby, Late Model, Sportsman and new for
    2011 Vintage Grand National racing.
Hobby Stock action saw Drew Kreibich pick off 4 straight heat wins and led the way to the main with 21. Defending series champion Pat Schroeder was low man qualifying for the main receiving first lane choice.
Bill Martin in the #39 DuPont Hornet made the high grove work and held off Schroeder for feature win #1 of the young season. Placing 3rd was Rich Hohlfeld followed by Kreibich and Puk. Martin also received Top Dog honors with 24.
Puk stole the show in Late Model racing with a sweep of his heats and came close to a clean sweep leading the first 8 laps of the feature before being involved in a crash with Ike Shimshak. Pat, who earlier won the run off over Mark Swingle, inherited the lead and went on to win the feature while Puk was credited with 2nd followed by Shimmy, Ike and Martin. Puk was Top Dog with 29.
Defending series champion Bill Martin started off last year with a clean sweep in Vintage racing and came close again this year winning 4 heats in a row leading the way to the main while Ike Shimshak won 3 of his own. In the 10 lap feature Bill lasted 1 turn ending his night early. Rich made it another lap for 4th while Drew lasted another for 3rd. Up front Puk held off Ike for the win and Top Dog honors with 26.
The fastest action of the night takes place in the Sportsman division. Track owner Mark Swingle led the way with 3 heat wins and 21 points. In the main Puk was first out followed by Mark and Bob Talley leaving Bill Martin and Rich Hohlfeld. Bill was able to hold off Rich for his 2nd career win.
Week one Lead Foot of the Week goes to Paul Gilbertson 94-92 over Bill Martin.

*** T-S refers to Mark Swingle's Thompson Speedway
*** Lead Foot go to total points in all classes

Week 2) January 28th (DIS) For the first time in CnB history the CnB
boys raced on a Friday night. Fourteen drivers made the trip to DIS for
Dakota’s 3rd season opener and as usual AJ had plenty of food on hand.
Tom Lange drove all the way from La Valle Wisconsin and did very well
making all 3 features he entered.
Hobby Stock action saw Paul Gilbertson win 5 of his 7 heats leading
the way to the main followed by Bill Martin. For the 2nd week in a row
defending series champion Pat Schroeder was low man qualifying for the
main with 13 points receiving first lane choice. AJ calls Dakota his
home track for good reasons and held off both Martin and Schroeder for
his 3rd career HS feature win, this time in his all new 1971 Dodge
Challenger. All his wins have come at DIS and he now has at least one
win every year the track has been open. Placing 4th was Kevin Owen
followed by Ike Shimshak while Puk and Tom Lange crashed out. Martin
grabbed Top Dog honors for the 2nd week in a row with 27. Could this be
    Martin’s year in Hobby stock?
Last week Puk won 5 LM heats and this week it was Ike Shimshak’s turn
as he won 5 of his 7 heat races leading the way to the main. Kevin Owen
came away with the feature win, his 7th, holding off Ike and Rich
Hohlfeld. Crashing out were Puk, Tom Lange, Johnny G and Martin. With
his 2nd place finish in the main defending LM series champion Ike
Shimshak has now moved into first place in the overall CnB standings
and was Top Dog with 29. AJ avoided an Amish sweep with a 1 point
    performance.
Three drivers, Martin, Ike and Johnny G, were hot in Vintage racing
each picking up 3 heat wins. Kevin Owen came away with his 2nd feature
win of the night holding of both Martin and Ike for his 6th career VGN
feature. Puk, Tom Lange, Johnny G and Amos all crashed out. With Top
Dog honors of 27 points defending champion Bill Martin has moved into
1st place in the overall CnB standing 1 point ahead of 2009 series
    champion Ike Shimshak.
Eleven of the drivers participated in the super fast Mod division.
Here we had our only run off of the night featuring Jake Shimshak and
Mark Swingle. Jake took an early lead but Mark stayed with it hounding
Jake lap after lap. With 2 laps to go the pressure got to Jake and he
crashed out. It was arguably the best race of the night. Leading the
way to the main was none other than the X Factor Kyle Cross. In the
feature Mark and Pat crashed out. Up front Shimmy was doing everything
he could to hold off Martin and Puk which he did for his 2nd career Mod
feature win, first in 3 years. Later Shimmy admitted to working on the
    car last week.
In a reversal of last week Martin topped Puk 88-78 for Lead Foot of
the Week. Ike finished in 3rd with 75 electing not to race in the Mod
    class.

Next up the boys travel to La Valle Wisconsin Saturday February 12th
for Redstone Speedways Grand Opening and for the first time the gang
will be racing on a Saturday.

Week 4 & 5) February 12th (RSR) The CnB boys raced on a Saturday for the very first time in history when they traveled to the newly sanctioned Redstone Raceway in La Valle Wisconsin. The group has raced RCHORA events there before and where pleasantly surprised again with a somewhat new configuration. Thirteen drivers made the trip including 2 drivers making their debuts, John & Peter Lange, brothers of track owner Tom Lange. Two sets of Hobby, Late Model & CWRA races were run.
As usual the Hobby Stocks started off the racing action. In round 1 Puk led the way to the main with 22 points while Bill Martin led the way with 3 heat wins. The most serious accident happened in heat 7 when Pete Lange lost a rear wheel on the last lap. For the 3rd week in a row Pat Amos Schroeder was low man in, picked lane 3, and went on to score his first HS feature win of 2011 over Tom Lange, Paul Gilbertson, Bill Martin and Rich Hohlfeld all on the lead lap. Puk was Top Dog with 25, his first of the year.
In round 2 points leader Bill Martin led the way to the main with 4 heat wins and 22 points. This time Puk was low man in and picked lane 3 and went on to win his first HS feature of 2011. Martin placed a close 2nd and was Top Dog with 26. Taking 3rd was Hohlfeld, all on the lead lap, followed by Amos with 4 and Bob Talley with 2. Now in his 3rd year we’d better keep tabs on Talley as he looks better and better every week picking up 2 more heats wins.
In Late Model action both Steve Rem and Bill Martin led the way with 3 heat wins while it was Rich Hohlfeld who lead the way to the main with 21. Pat was low man in picking lane 3 again but this time it was only good for second place as points leader Bill Martin, with a new paint scheme, went on to win his first LM feature of the year. Placing 3rd was Rem, Mark Swingle was 4th followed by Hohlfeld. Top Dog was Martin with 25. Point’s leader Ike Shimshak missed the main by 1 point and is now co leader with Bill Martin.
Martin went on a tear in round 2 winning 4 heats and placing 2nd in the other leading the way to the main with 24. Ike Shimshak hung the closest with 3 heat wins and 21 points. Low man in was home town racer Tom Lange and guess what lane he picked? You got it, lane 3 and what a pick it was! Making it 3 out of 4 on lane 3, Tom went on to claim his first ever CnB feature win driving his #17 Burger King GTO! The win came in Tom’s 11th LM start. Last year’s point’s champion Ike Shimshak placed 2nd followed by Rem all on the lead lap. Finishing 4th was Martin with Pat rounding out the top 5. Top Dog was Martin again by 1 point over Ike 26-25. Martin is your new point’s leader by the 1 point over Ike after 4 nights of racing.
It’s been about 3 years since the CnB boys last raced their CWRA cars but that didn’t stop them from having a little fun. Obviously the Lange boys like this class as Pete & Tom led the way to the main both with 21 points and 3 heat wins apiece. Before the feature could be run we had to have a run off for 1 spot between 4 drivers. Here Winona’s Steve Rem put the pedal to the floor and out lasted the other 3 for the win and lane choice for the main. Keeping with tradition he too picked 3rd lane. Hot shoe Pat Schroeder on lane 4 made it look easy as he held off Rem for the win, his 5th career in CWRA action. Both drivers completed the 15 lap distance while Tom Lange placed 3rd with 13 followed by Pete Lange, in his first CnB feature appearance, with 1 lap. Ike Shimshak rounded out the top 5 completing 0 laps. Top Dog honors went to Tom Lange with 24 while Pete and Pat were close behind with 23.
In the final round of racing of the day Schroeder led the way to the main with 3 heat wins and 21 points while Tom had 1 heat win and 21 points. Bob Talley got the award for best move of the day when he went up the wall in turn 2 and came back down pointed the right way in his lane. Amos once again dominated this race taking the checkers ahead of Ike and Puk. Fourth went to Tom while Rich claimed 5th. Pat took Top Dog honors with 26 and is your current points leader by 2 over Tom Lange.

Pat Schroeder picked up 2 Lead Foot awards winning both Saturday sessions over Bill Martin.

Next up, the CnB boys travel to Rich Hohlfeld’s track in La Crosse Wisconsin for a THURSDAY night show down February 24th for River City Raceway’s season opener.

Week 5) February 24th (RCR) Eleven drivers made the trip to River City Raceway’s for their 7th season opener. Missing his first career race at RCR was 2 time defending Hobby Stock champion Pat Schroeder who was home ill.
Hobby Stock action saw 7 of the racers win heats led by Bill Martin, Kristin Pfaff, Ike Shimshak and Drew Kreibich each with 2. Kevin Owen was low man in with 16 while Drew missed the main by 1. Bill somehow got lane 1 and held off Ike and Puk for his 2nd feature win of 2011 taking Top Dog honors with 24. Owen finished 4th with Pfaff 5th both 1 lap down. Ike & Kristin placed 2nd with 22 points. Heat 1 had a caution when all 5 drivers failed to complete a lap.
Mark Swingle had a personnel best 3 heat wins in a row and passed Kevin Owen to win his 9th career Late Model feature event, 2nd here at RCR. He also won Top Dog honors with 24 points 1 ahead of Ike Shimshak. Ike finished 3rd followed by Rich Hohlfeld & Martin. Ike moved back into 1st place in the overall CnB LM standings 3 ahead of Martin. Nickname artist Kevin Owen placed a new one on Martin when seeing his new green, red and white paint schemes: Santa Billy.
2009 VGN champion Ike Shimshak paced the field with 3 heat wins and a 2nd place finish in the feature earning Top Dog honors with 27. Kevin Owen picked up his 2nd in a row checkers with his 7th career VGN feature win. Hohlfeld placed 3rd followed by Drew and Bill. Ike moved into the overall CnB top spot by 7 over defending series champion Bill Martin.
When it comes to Nastjet racing it’s tough to hold back Rich Hohlfeld. Rich picked off his first 3 heats and added a 4th in heat 5 leading the way to the main convincingly with 23 points. The other 4 drivers all had 16. Hohlfeld was stuck on lane 5 in the main where he lasted just over a lap leaving the door wide open for the other competitors. Mark Swingle ran strong and held off Martin for his 2nd feature win of the night. The win was Mark’s first career NTJ win coming in his 61st start. Placing 3rd also on the lead lap was Ike followed by Kristin 1 lap down.
Ike picked up his first 2011 Lead Foot of the Week award 91-82 over Bill.

Crash & Burn La Crosse, Wisconsin Empty Week 6 C&B

Post  Grampa Ho Wed Mar 16, 2011 11:06 am

Week 6) March 10th Points leader Bill Martin started off with a 4th place finish then rattled off 4 consecutive wins to lead the way to the Hobby stock main with 22. Bob Talley picked up 2 heat wins and held off Puk and Ike to win the feature and took Top Dog honors for the 2nd time in his career with 26. Placing 4th was Mark Swingle followed by Martin.
Kevin Owen dominated Late Model action winning 4 heats and placed 3rd in the other leading the way to the main with 23. He was stuck on lane 1 for the main where he paced himself to a 2nd place finish and Top Dog honors with 27. Meanwhile Mark Swingle made it 2 in a row with his first LM feature win at Thompson Speedway. Third place went to Hohlfeld followed by Ike and Pat Schroeder.
Five drivers each picked up 2 heat wins but it was Rich Hohlfeld leading the way to the main with 20 points. From there defending series champion Bill Martin held of Jake Shimshak for his first VGN feature win of the year. With the win Bill edged Rich for Top Dog honors with 23. CnB points leader Ike Shimshak missed the main but came away with a slim 1 point lead. Third place went to Kevin followed by Rich and Drew Kreibich.
